Tanzania Set to Expand Mandatory Travel Insurance to Mainland Territory
On June 12, 2025, during the 2025/2026 budget reading in the Tanzanian Parliament, Minister of Finance Mwigulu Lameck Nchemba Madelu announced a proposal to amend the Insurance Act, CAP 394. The amendment introduces mandatory travel insurance for all foreign visitors entering mainland Tanzania, priced at $44 per person. This policy, inspired by a similar initiative already in place in Zanzibar, aims to enhance traveler safety while generating revenue through a public-private partnership.
