Kenya Seeks $2 Billion in Funding for JKIA Expansion
Kenya is seeking $2 billion in financing from international development
lenders to expand Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), with
plans to build a second runway and a new terminal. Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir
announced the initiative on Monday, August 11, 2025, during the Public-Private
Partnership (PPP) Symposium in Nairobi. The move comes nine months after the
government scrapped a controversial deal with India’s Adani Group, whose
founder was indicted in the United States.
