Kenya Deploys Rapid-Response Equipment for Aircraft Immobilized on Runways

On Friday, June 27, 2025, the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) officially commissioned a New Generation Aircraft Recovery System (NGARS), a state-of-the-art solution designed for the rapid evacuation of disabled aircraft from runways and taxiways. Supplied by UK-based AMS Aircraft Recovery Ltd and acquired for slightly over £1 million (approx. KSh 177.4 million), the system will be based at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Kenya’s primary aviation hub.
