Sustainable Skies: World Bank Sees Africa as a Future SAF Powerhouse
As Africa’s air traffic is expected to double by 2043—reaching 345 million passengers—the continent faces a dual challenge: meeting growing demand while curbing its carbon footprint. Against this backdrop, the World Bank released a new study on June 4 titled Fueling Africa’s Flight, offering a comprehensive assessment of the continent’s potential in producing sustainable aviation fuels (SAF). The report, positioned between technical evaluation and strategic foresight, focuses on four key countries: Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa.
