South Africa’s Government Suspends ATNS CEO Over Persistent ATC Service Failures

On March 16, 2025, South Africa’s Minister of Transport, Barbara Creecy, suspended Nosipho Mdawe, CEO of the Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS), the public entity responsible for overseeing the country’s air traffic management. The decision comes as the organization grapples with significant challenges, including widespread delays, safety concerns, and governance issues. Chief Financial Officer Matome Moholola has assumed the role of acting CEO, while an independent law firm investigates Mdawe’s leadership.
