AFI Region Moves Toward Harmonized Aviation Safety Protocols for Volcanic Ash Events
In response to the growing threat posed by volcanic ash clouds to air operations, the Africa–Indian Ocean (AFI) region is working to develop common flight safety protocols. From 16 to 20 June 2025, a high-level workshop is taking place in Yaoundé, Cameroon, at the training center of the Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority (CCAA). The initiative is being coordinated by the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) Western and Central African Office.
