Dakar Mounts Last-Chance Operation to Rescue Debt-Laden Air Sénégal

Air Sénégal SA, Senegal’s national airline, is in deep trouble. With debts of more than 118 billion CFA francs (around 198 million USD) and heavy losses of 89 billion in 2022 (150 million USD) and 57 billion in 2023 (about 96 million USD), the company is on the verge of collapse. On Thursday, April 3, 2025, Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko led a special government meeting to approve an emergency plan aimed at saving the airline and turning it into a key part of Senegal’s long-term vision, “Vision Sénégal 2050.”
