IATA Urges African States to Treat Aviation as Strategic Economic Infrastructure
At the IATA Focus Africa Conference that
took place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 29 to 30 April 2026, the
International Air Transport Association (IATA) issued a strong call for African
governments to prioritize aviation as a long-term driver of economic growth,
job creation, trade, tourism, and regional integration rather than viewing it
primarily as a source of short-term tax revenue.
