Airspace Clash : Somalia and Somaliland Air Traffic Controllers Issuing Conflicting Instructions in Mogadiscio FIR
Dispute between Somalia and the unrecognized state of Somaliland is causing disruptions to flights in the Mogadishu Flight Information Region (FIR). Last week February 13, the Somaliland Civil Aviation and Airports Authority stated that it has taken back control of its airspace from Somalia, citing “breach and abuse of power and control of the air traffic management” by the Mogadishu Government.
