Africa Records World's Highest Baggage Mishandling Rate (SITA)
As the global aviation industry posts its best baggage handling performance since before the pandemic, Africa stands out as a troubling exception. The continent recorded a mishandling rate of 12.1 bags per thousand passengers in 2025 — the highest of any region worldwide — according to SITA's 2026 Baggage IT Insights report released this month.
