LAM Mozambique Fined USD 173,000 for Illegal Surcharge
Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (LAM), Mozambique’s national carrier, has
been fined 11,109,738.05 meticais (approximately \$173,000) by the Competition Regulatory Authority
(ARC) for abusing its dominant position in the domestic air transport market.
The penalty follows the airline’s unauthorized imposition of a surcharge that
inflated ticket prices by as much as 60%, despite a 2021 ministerial order
suspending the fee.
