IATA renews warning on blocked airline funds as Algeria now leads African blacklist, BEAC under scrutiny

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has renewed its warning over the scale of airline revenues blocked by governments, a problem it says continues to undermine the viability of air transport across Africa and the Middle East. The warning was reiterated on December 10, 2025 in Geneva, where Kamil Alawadhi, IATA’s Regional Vice President for Africa and the Middle East, was speaking during a briefing with African media.
