Goma International Airport Undergoing Demining as Key Step Toward Reopening
Goma International Airport, a crucial gateway in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), is undergoing an extensive demining operation led by the Alliance Fleuve Congo (AFC) and the M23 rebel group. Launched in late March 2025, the initiative aims to clear the airport of explosive remnants left behind by months of conflict. Restoring the airport's functionality is vital for humanitarian aid, regional connectivity, and civilian air travel in North Kivu province.
