AFRAA Reports Progress on Free Route Airspace Trials with Significant Fuel and Cost Savings
Launched in November 2023, the pilot project for Free Route Airspace (FRA), which allows flight planning outside conventional routes, has shown promising results in Africa. The African Airlines Association (AFRAA) provided an update on this experimental project on September 16, 2024, during the Aviation Africa summit. Alongside pioneering airlines Ethiopian Airlines and Kenya Airways, four additional African carriers have decided to join the experiment.
