Mauritius Secures World Bank and EU Financing for Expansion of Rodrigues International Airport

On Monday, September 23, 2024, the Mauritian government, the World Bank (WB), and the European Union (EU) signed a financing agreement for the construction of a new runway in Rodrigues. This agreement, worth approximately Rs 9.2 billion (approximately $ 200 million) including Rs 8.5 billion (USD 184 million) as a loan from the World Bank and Rs 797 million (EUR 16 million) as an EU grant, aims to enhance air transport access, strengthen climate resilience, and boost the productivity of Rodrigues Island.
